USMDPedia Services

Services Offered By USMDPedia

Thank you for visiting USMDPedia.

My name is Mark Heagney. Since 2012, I have been working with international medical professionals who want to work in the United States, either as a practicing clinician or as a post-doctoral researcher.

From 2008 to 2016, I was involved with English-language programs at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, both in Boston.

With 10 years of experience working with foreign medical graduates, I am confident in offering private coaching sessions that focus on the following:

Patient Encounter Situations

Interview Preparation

Occupational English Test (OET) Medicine Preparation

Patient Encounter Situations

Speaking in English with patients and colleagues can be challenging. Patient encounters require a lot of different approaches, depending on the patient and the particular case.

I have prepared many different cases with a variety of patient types (complaining, drug-seeking, paranoid, regular – to name a few). These cases also cover a range of specialties such as cardiology, pediatrics, neurology and gastroenterology, to name a few.

Targets: appropriate language use, clear information gathering and giving, establishing rapport

Interview Preparation

For doctors who have interviews for residency, fellowship or post-doc positions, I offer coaching for all types of questions and scenarios. Your information is always kept confidential.

I have worked with doctors from Japan, Thailand, Brazil, Taiwan, China, Colombia and Egypt, as well as other countries. I have learned particular patterns for each culture, and can work with you to help show your best self in interviews.

Occupational English Test (OET) Medicine

The Occupational English Test (OET) is the English-communication test required by the United States and the United Kingdom for medical graduates who completed education and training outside these respective countries.

The test covers reading, listening, writing and speaking. The speaking is done as a live-interview session with a non-medically trained person.

I will help you prepare for all sections or specific sections that you struggle with for the exam.
